Dubai is considered a highly attractive location for maritime business, with industry experts predicting that it will advance four ranks to become the sixth most important maritime center in the world in the near future. This progression is reflected in the maritime sector, where close to AED 26.9 billion is generated annually for Dubai’s economy, equal to 7% of the total GDP. Holding an undisputed position as a fast-growing global maritime center, Dubai is working hard to become a first-class international maritime gateway.
“Looking forward to five years from now, which cities will be the five-leading maritime centers of the world”, was the question asked to industry experts in a recent international survey conducted by Menon Business Economics Group and DNV GL, to rank countries in order of attractiveness and competitiveness in the maritime sector. Dubai ranked ninth, not far away from Singapore, Shanghai and London – becoming the only Middle Eastern representative on the global maritime map for excellence and innovation.
